Stay humble. Stay hungry. Those are the words the Mavericks are wearing like a new tattoo. It’s the attitude that helped them crush the Los Angeles Lakers in ways historic and otherwise. Laker mystique? Intimidation? Spirit? All of it was pounded to tiny bits by the Mavericks in perhaps the most dominating performance in franchise history as they plowed under the two-time defending champions, 122-86, Sunday afternoon at American Airlines Center. They completed a 4-0 sweep that was as thorough as it was shocking. When they were done, the Mavericks acted almost like they’d been here before, even though most of them haven’t. “We’ve still got a long way to go,” Shawn Marion said. “We’re hungry. So our stomach is half-full now. We’re going to fill it up.” Half-full from the standpoint that this merely got the Mavericks past the two-time defending champion Lakers in the Western Conference semifinals. Ahead is a conference finals series against either Memphis or Oklahoma City, which won’t start until at least Sunday. Memphis leads that series, 2-1.
